Link Strategies - Reciprocal Links

Here are the TOP 10 Best Strategies For Reciprocal Links

Reciprocal Links are probably the most common Linking Strategy that everyone understands, and is often the most misunderstood Internet Marketing Strategy.

Now if you are planning on using reciprocal linking as part of your link strategy you need to consider the risks -vs- benefits.

Here are a few concepts to consider:

1.) Link Terminology: These are common linking terms; directories, crosslinking, interlinking, internal linking, external linking, canonicals, subdomains, Social Bookmarking, hubs, reciprocal, static links, dynamic links, or authority links.

2.) Develop A Linking Strategy: Every web site should have a Link Strategy to increase your Ranking in the Search Engines and for Google PR (Pagerank). Other reasons include, build authority, increase traffic, generate targeted traffic and ultimately increase sales.

3.) Researched The Competition: Find out what your online competitors are doing about linking. Do they have an industry presence, forums, newsgroups, or associations. Check their links and relation to their overall Search Engine Ranking.

4.) Know Your Audience: Researched where your audience does business, where they search for their information. What do they buy or what are they interested in. This will help in planning your Link Strategy.

5.) Start With The End In Mind: Determine what you want from a reciprocal linking campaign and what are you willing to accept in exchange. Are you willing to exchange banners, text links, affiliate links and in what form from static to dynamic?

6.) Use Anchor Text: Your Links should be Keywords. Do a search to get the best keywords for your Niche and use these as your links.

7.) Set Up A Link Exchange Page: You should have your link partners listed on a specific page. You can create your own link directory. Alternately you can place links through out your site, create content as link bait, or create individual pages for each link partner.

8.) Have A linking Policy: Published your Link Policy on your site. Make it clear and include a way to contact you.

9.) Be Consistent: I takes time to implement and maintain a good Reciprocal Link Campaign. It can take several weeks to month to get results. You need to follow through and stay consistent, and you will see the rewards over time.

10.) Automate: There is a lot of work involved in setting up and maintaining a good Reciprocal Link Strategy. There are many tasks that have to be done including establishing contact, and communicating with potential partners, the gathering information, record keeping and reporting. Automate these tasks can make your life a lot simpler.

Reciprocal linking strategy may not be right for every site. It takes a good deal of work to set this up properly, so do your homework.

In establishing a Linking Strategy it’s best to consider the pros and cons when setting up your plan. A reciprocal linking strategy can have many Risks, but the Rewards can be Great.

I don’t think reciprocal linking should be used. As a rule of thumb if it isn’t actually adding to the experience of your visitors it probably shouldn’t be done. I would be weary of the penalties in the search engines for this kind of scheme. But, if you’ve had better experience I would love to hear about it.
