Hosting Your Own Blog

As part of your Internet Marketing Strategy you will want to set up your own Blog. Blogs are the central core of all you Online Marketing. When you get ready to start blogging you’ll need to decide whether use a hosted blog like Google’s Blogger or to host it on your own site with your own Blogging Software.

You may already have a hosted blog setup on a service like WordPress.org or Blogger.com and that’s cool. These remotely hosted blogs easy to setup and maintain. You simply set up an account and start blogging.

There is a theory that can get better Page Rank, being hosted on blogger (Because it’s owned by Google) but I don’t think this is necessarily true. There are reasons to have blogs hosted at Blogger and Wordpress, but these are more advanced Search Engine Marketing Strategies and we will talk about this in an upcoming course module.

The disadvantage to hosted blogs is that these services can place their own ads and other links on your site that you have no control over. They can also limit the amount of customizing that you can do on their blog platform. Worst of all, they can shut you down anytime for whatever reason.

I recommend that you host it yourself. The only blog software you want to use is Wordpress.This way you’ll never have to worry about getting locked out of your account, and you are in full control of every aspect of your blog. You can add your own templates, themes or plugins and customize it any way you want. you want.

There are some amazing plugins available that allow you to do virtually anything you want with your blog. And some of the best programmers in the world are developing new plugins all the time for the Wordpress platform, that you can get for FREE.
