Link Strategies - Directories
One of the essential Internet Marketing strategies to use when you’re working to increase your search engine rankingsis to get listed as many legitimate directories as possible. Most good Directories will have higher PageRank to pass on to your site than the typical reciprocal linking partner site. Plus, you get better quality one-way links back to your site which help with your own PageRank, Search Engine Ranking, and ultimately Traffic (Visitors) to your site.
Directory Listings should be part of your overall Link Strategy. It’s a good idea to plan your directory listings in advance. Set up a format you can use again and again in the different directories.
- Title - like your page title, (title-tag) a directory title should include the keywords you want to rank high for. Some of the bigger directories only let you include your company name for your home page, but many of the lesser directories aren’t so picky. You can get around this by using your Keyword as the name of your company.
- Category - this give relevance to your listing. Most directories are laid out by topic so it’s critically important to check all the available categories and choose the one that is most relevant to your site before submitting. When the category is relevant it both improves the chance of your listing getting accepted to the directory and that the link to your site has the is in sync with the topic of with your site, helping to provide a better user experience, which will ultimately lead to more people finding your site, and more traffic.
- Description - this should be a keyword rich well written description that accurately describes your site including any product or service you offer. Some directories may only allow for a brief description. Others give you space for a more detailed description, so have both a shorter 250-character description and a longer 500-character description ready in advance.
- Keywords these are allowed by most directories. You want to to tag your listing so people using the directory can find what they’re looking for. Have a list of Keyword Tags prepared in advance, using comma-separated, ready to cut and past into the directory listing form.
